AUTUMN SESSIONS
Tue 11 September '07: Alison
Autumn Term sessions begin tuesday Sept 11.
Juniors 5-7, seniors 7-9.
We will be at Priory School, but in classrooms not the music block, which is being rebuilt, we hope to back there before Christmas - meanwhile....
There will be notices telling you where to go, or maybe tutors to show you...
After this week there will be timing changes, so that we can fit everyone in, as we will have less space while the music block is being rebuilt.
Tutors will explain at the first session.
PRESS RELEASE FOR 'STARFISH IN THE PARK'
Tue 3 July '07:
Lee’s finger lickin’ good
Starfish in The Park.
Sat 21st July 2007 12.00 – 6.00pm
One of the bright young stars of acoustic guitar Lee Westwood will be amongst the 20 acts performing at the ‘Starfish in the Park’ acoustic festival at the Paddock Fields in Lewes. Lee’s album ‘To Sleep’ received rave reviews from magazines such as ‘Guitar and Bass’ and ‘Acoustic Guitar’ and a constant stream of gigs ensures that he is always busy. Despite his growing reputation the Brighton based guitarist still has his feet firmly on the ground. Asked why he was giving up his time to perform he simply replied "Starfish encourages young people to play music’.
Also making a special guest appearance will be soulful Lewes singer songwriter Dicken Marshal. With his first solo album ‘Island Time’ almost complete long-time Starfish supporter Dicken was more than happy to help out. ‘I think Starfish is an amazing project, I think it offers a really good experience for young people and I wish it was around when I was eleven’.
Co-ordinator Steve Franklin said ‘it’s fantastic that these guys are supporting the event. We already have some great young performers but Lee and Dicken are the icing on the cake’. He added ‘we want young people and their families to bring a picnic and be part of a great day out. There will some great music, youth information stalls and lots of activities including art and drum workshops, giant games and, of course, a bouncy castle’!
The idea for the acoustic concert came from the Chair of Starfish, Alison Harvey, who wanted to put on a free music event for young people in Lewes. Now in it’s third year it has attracted more than 50 young musicians from across Sussex including Lewes, Crowborough, Chailey, Ringmer, Peacehaven, Seaford, Kingston, Newhaven and Eastbourne. Any young person was able to apply for one of the 20 performance slots and they were all snapped up within a week.
Local shops and business helped fund the 6-hour event by sponsoring pages in a ‘Starfish in the park’ brochure distributed free across Lewes and the surrounding area. It includes an exclusive interview with Kooks guitarist and former Starfish member Hugh Harris.
